(Konstitusi SVD 121)

WHENEVER YOU DID THIS TO THESE LITTLE ONES WHO ARE MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS, YOU DID IT TO ME! These strong words are quoted from the story of the last judgment, stated in the Gospel of Matthew (Mt 25:40). Inspired by this quotation and other parts of the scripture, International Pastoral Community also has a policy of reaching out people in need. We call it sharing the blessing of the Lord.

To begin with, the community is blessed with so many generous people, both expatriates and local Indonesian. When a project for certain program of reaching out people in need is announced, the response is so overwhelming. The donations are flooding. On one occasion, when we have no more room to put all donations, one of the Divine Word Missionaries working in Batam, said, that we need to build a store house for this particular purpose.

Why reaching out?

Although the reaching out project happens once in a while, the basic idea lays behind this is, that we should put the Word of God into practice. God encourages us to love our neighbours. But what is the form of implementation? How are going to react to this message? And by doing so, what is the message we send to our fellow Catholics? In my opinion, this reaching out program has two dimensions. Firstly, to give chance to our unfortunate brothers and sisters to experience the loving presence of God in their life. Secondly, it is also a process of educating our people, especially children, of how to give. Any form of blessing we enjoy so far is not just a gift but also a task to execute, because what we have actually belong to God, that have to be used to send his message of salvation for many.

Every Advent and Lenten season is the period of sharing the blessing of the Lord. After some intensive searching, we usually drop all donations to those who are really in need.

We are only His instruments of love

Every time the community executes the program, the beautiful thing to mention here is the involvement of children. Looking at all these innocent faces, the joy and happiness that clearly appear in their mind, eventually they unconsciously make themselves available to be the instruments of Divine love to other people. They are learning how to react to the misery of other people. Apart from all difficulties, the International Pastoral Community will sustain this beautiful ministry. Action often speaks louder than words.

If you are interested, please join us. All donations will be delivered to the needy. We have received so many wonderful blessings from the Lord, it is time for us to be the beautiful blessing to other people. Contact the IPC chaplain, Fr. Aurelius Pati Soge, SVD, for further information. You may also approach the servant head couples, Danee and Maria So, ad Evy and Hendra Sunarya.
