  Fathers Day:
Being a Father is a headache but joyful
     
 

FATHERS DAY is not commonly known and celebrated in Indonesia, yet International Pastoral Community of Batam likes to highlights that particular events to honor all fathers within the community, on Sunday, June 21, 2014, At the end of the Holy Eucharist, all fathers are invited to line at the from of the altar, to be prayed for and blessed by Fr. Aurelius Pati Soge, SVD, the Sunday Mass presider of the day. Before the blessing, Fr. Pati Soge praises their presence on that particular day, their roles in their families in particular and in the society in general. He also reminds them of their mission as Christian men, who have to witness the Word of God in their words and deeds, throughout their lives.


Headache and joy

At the beginning of his homily, prior to the special blessing for them, Fr. Pati Soge jokingly warns all men who have not been married yet. "Make sure that you thing about it carefully, as being a father is really a headache", he says. "But I also know for sure, that being father is also joyful, because you share your love to your family and experience the fullness of being a man. It is a call from God that you have to fulfill in certain stage of your life."

Food, music and dance

Apart from special intention at Sunday Mass, a simple party is consequently organized for all fathers at the DeBottle Restaurant, right after the Sunday Mass. A few numbers of families attend the party, highlighted with music, dances, games and food. Some children perform dances for their fathers. A music group band sings several local and international songs to enliven the atmosphere. Several games are also conducted to mark the celebration, funny, bright and joyful. "This is the first time a party for fathersday ever organized in the community, during my seventeen years of staying here in Batam", says Danee So, the head of International Pastoral Community. In his closing remark, Fr. Pati Soge, emphasizes three things that are crucial in the role of being a father, that being humble, showing your compassion and being in solidarity with your family members all the time.
